All the kids just jump in and they start creating whatever there is in
their minds. One can build a house, a bridge, a road, a structure or
even the Eiffel Tower!

Imagine it and build it, that’s the fun of these building games
for kids. Especially for creative kids that don’t want to follow building
descriptions from a book.

Kapla Blocks
the big hit from Europe

It all started with a Dutch guy who wanted to build a castle. A real castle was not possible for him and he then invented the Kapla blocks. Kapla stands for “Kabouter Plankjes” and translated it means: gnome planks in Dutch.

The concept is so simple, yet very educational and creative in such a way that these building games for kids are even recognized by museums and approved and introduced in schools. They are perfect as creative and educational game at home and at school, for playgroups and parents.

American company Mindware came with Structures and Contraptions. The concept is the same, the size and quality too. Contraptions contains two balls to make marble runs with the planks and Structures is geared towards building constructions.

What is it?

These wooden planks are all the same size in a very specific ratio. This ratio makes them ideal for building many different creations.  There is no glue, clips, or other fixing material needed, the planks are held in place by gravity and balance.Just plain building fun!Wooden planks building construction set

Turn your building blocks into  games

Mindware Structures, construction setYes, think outside the box and turn your planks into building games for kids. It’s easier then you think. I will give you some examples.

  • Build a long run and see who’s car or marble can roll the fastest or the furthest on your run.
  • Build a playing field with walls and goals of Structures and use a ping pong ball/ or Contraptions ball and a  plank as hockey stick. Now you have Plank Hockey!
  • Build an easy structure and see who can rebuild it the quickest.
  • Make it into a domino game
  • Play Angry Birds Planks. Build a structure and construct a seesaw (all from Planks) to throw other  planks at the structure. See who manage to knock the whole structure down.

These are just easy examples how to change a building toy into a creative, educational building game for kids.
